Our Verdict

The Rab Windgather Hoody is a clean, functional windproof layer that feels nicely judged for cool, breezy starts. At 176g for a Medium, it’s light enough to disappear into your pack but still feels substantial enough to take the edge off exposed ridgelines. The Pertex Quantum fabric is soft and quiet, with enough structure to shed gusts without ballooning or flapping around.

The hood fits well, with a stiffened peak that holds up in the wind. The part-elasticated hem and cuffs do just enough to seal things in without feeling restrictive. The two hand pockets are roomy enough for gloves or snacks, and the fit is relaxed without being baggy. It would suit hiking, trail running, or carrying as a just-in-case shell when rain isn’t the primary concern.
