Our Verdict

The Montane Jetstream 5in Shorts feel properly streamlined—nothing flaps, digs in or rides up. At 88g for a Medium, they’re light enough to forget about but still tough enough for rougher trails. The cut is short and unrestrictive, helped by split sides and a soft waistband that adjusts easily without bulk. I appreciated the bonded hems, which stay smooth even on long, sweaty climbs.

The internal pocket is helpful for a key or gel but won’t carry much more, so layering with tights or a belt would suit longer efforts. They’d be good for summer fell runs, fastpacking or as a breathable spare on longer hikes.
